The Heritage YouTh Chorus

Presents

“I Can Do All Things Through Christ”

Thursday, June 8th 2023

7pm

At the Yakima Stake Center

On Thursday, June 8th, the Heritage Youth Chorus from American Fork, UT will be visiting the Yakima stake to present a free musical fireside entitled “I Can Do All Things Through Christ”. This special fireside will include singing, narration, professional instrumentalists, and video. All stake members, including youth, are invited to enjoy this special fireside with friends and family.

We are excited that this choir has selected our stake as one of only seven performing venues on their 2023 Pacific Northwest tour. We feel confident that this will be a worthwhile and spiritually edifying event for all.

We are sensitive to not overburdening stake members with activities and events, especially during the busy month of June. However, we would encourage you to do all in your power to get the word out to your ward members so that everyone who is able to has the opportunity to attend this special performance.

This is a great opportunity to hear youth (ages 13-18) present music inspired from the 2023 youth theme “I Can Do All Things Through Christ”. The fireside is only 60 minutes in length, and involves a 120 person, faith-centered, youth choir.

We believe this would be a perfect combined youth activity for young men and young women in the Selah and Yakima stakes. We encourage leaders in the stakes to coordinate with their youth class presidencies to plan for this unique opportunity, and encourage the youth to invite less active members or friends to attend with them. This is a great missionary opportunity.

Refreshments will be provided afterward, with an opportunity for the youth of our stakes to mingle with the performers. Additionally, two youth from Yakima Stake are representing Yakima and Sunnyside as extended members of this choir. They have been rehearsing with them remotely all year, and are excited to share their talents with us.

Become a Host family

**UPDATE*** WE HAVE ALL THE HOST FAMILIES WE NEED.***
Thank you to all the hosts from our stakes in helping out!

If you’re interested in volunteering to host students, please fill out the sign up form by clicking the “Sign up” button below.

● Host families will have 3 or 4 youth in their homes for one night while the choir is in the area. Families can choose to host girls or boys, and the age group of youth they fill will fit best with their family.

● Youth in the choir are 14 to 18 years old and are usually grouped with similar aged youth of the same sex. There will not be any mixed gender groups.

● Host families will pick up the youth assigned to their home after the performance. Please attend the fireside. The program will end at 8:00. After visiting for about 15-20 minutes with the congregation, the youth will need to gather their carry-on sized suitcases and their backpack, then meet their host family who will take the youth to their home for the night.

● Beds are not required for the youth. They can sleep on the floor or a couch and will all have their own sleeping bag with them.

● On Friday, June 9th, host families will serve breakfast to the youth, pack a sack lunch for them to eat later in the day and drive them back to the Yakama Stake Center starting at 8:00 and no later than 8:40am.

● Each host family will receive a stipend of $10 per youth to help cover the cost of hosting the youth. (A total of $30 if you host 3 youth, $40 if you host 4 youth).

● Once you are confirmed as a host family, more details and a weekend schedule will be provided.

● Thank you for your willingness to host the youth of the choir!

Please reach out to Shannon Carlson with any questions. (509) 833-6483.

Help with Food

UPDATE*** We still need servers and people to help cook rice and beans etc…

Meal coordinators will organize a group to plan and prepare a meal for the choir in the cultural hall on the evening of their arrival (usually 4:30 pm). This includes coordinating setup of tables/chairs in the cultural hall (the choir will help clean up and take down tables/chairs after the meal). Coordinators are given a budget of $5 per person. Coordinators will approve the menu and budget as well as any food allergies members may have. The typical amount of choir members, plus tour chaperones, and bus drivers include around 150 people.
